Join us for Soteria in the Pub, our third open mic event to raise awareness for compassionate alternatives for people in distress on Saturday 3rd June , 2-6pm at The Betsey Trotwood (EC1R 3BL).
https://www.soterianetwork.org.uk/ is an international movement of service users, survivors, activists, carers and professionals fighting for more humane, non-coercive mental health services. We aim to build networks of support, creativity and connection for people in extreme distress.
Our previous mic gig, we heard wonderful, soul bearing songs and poems that spoke to lived experiences of crisis and distress. Friends and families joined to share stories, music, perspectives, and, of course, a good laugh.
Our own Tanya Frank will be reading excerpts from her acclaimed book Zig Zag Boy. Books will be available to buy.
Our main guest again is Janine Booth author, poet, one woman riot , activist & poetry editor at Asylum Magazine . Janine welcomes any poems for submission to the magazine.
The house band Dadford & Son: Frank Burgess, Felix Holt , Eamonn Flynn will also be back to bang out some tunes.
Joining us will be artists from Hope in the HeART and musicians from Outsider Music
This is a ticket only event, please book in advance via Eventbrite. Tickets are free but we welcome donations of £5-£10. All funds will be used to pay performers, and to help fund future events and plans.
Feeling safe at our gig
It can be intimidating to perform songs, poems and stories in a new space and we want everyone to feel safe. To help with any nerves or stage fright, we have set a rehearsal date, should you like to meet and familiarise yourself with the space. This will take place usually a week before on the afternoon of 27th May. Please email us at londonsoteria@gmail.com to confirm your attendance for a rehearsal.
During the event, we will also have a quiet room upstairs and staff available to be with you if you are feeling overwhelmed in any way.
